Semaglutide, an analog of the glucagon-like peptide (GLP-1), mimics a hormone naturally occurring in the small intestine. This hormone triggers insulin secretion and suppresses glucagon secretion, leading to decreased blood sugar levels. Tirzepatide is a combination medication, incorporating both GLP-1 and GIP classes, whereas Semaglutide contains only GLP-1. Its mechanism involves mimicking incretin hormones released post-meal, regulating pancreatic insulin secretion and reducing liver glucose production.
